Uniting Young Musicians Through Music
About Amicis Sinfonia ⸺
Our Musical Journey
Amicis Sinfonia is an independent youth orchestra founded in 2022 with the vision of uniting young musicians through inclusivity and a shared love for music. While maintaining ties with its founding university orchestras at HKU, PolyU, and HKUST, Amicis Sinfonia has grown into a vibrant ensemble of over 70 musicians from universities and secondary schools across Hong Kong.
The orchestra made its debut in September 2023 with a performance of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony and Mozart’s D Minor Piano Concerto, leading to a Christmas Eve broadcast on RTHK Radio 2, introducing the orchestra to a wider audience.
In 2024, Amicis Sinfonia began the season performing at the HKU Grand Hall, followed by a tour to Vienna, where it won first prize in the Symphony Orchestra Category of the SCL International Youth Music Festival. Performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Dance of the Yao People, the orchestra played at iconic venues such as the MuTh, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, and the Konzerthaus. In November, the orchestra presented an interactive concert at Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium, featuring excerpts from Swan Lake, the Die Fledermaus Overture, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Shostakovich’s Festive Overture.
In March 2025, Amicis Sinfonia presented a chamber concert in Hong Kong, showcasing the artistic diversity and musicianship of its members. Later that year, the orchestra embarked on a tour to Italy, performing in Florence and across the Tuscany region. These performances allowed the ensemble to share their music in some of Europe’s most historic cultural centers, and to connect with new audiences and communities abroad.
Beyond performances, Amicis Sinfonia remains committed to community outreach. With over 40 concerts in schools, hospitals, and elderly centres, the orchestra shares the healing and unifying power of music with people from all walks of life.
The orchestra’s accomplishments are made possible by the support of patrons such as Tom Lee Music, Vality Group, and the Hsin Chog – K.N. Godfrey Yeh Education Fund, as well as its university partners.
Whether you are a musician looking to join or a music lover seeking inspiration, Amicis Sinfonia invites you to be part of its journey. Together, we celebrate the joy of music, from Hong Kong to Vienna and beyond.
